“Sandy caused allot of cancellations of flights along with airport closures. When I contacted Priscilla, she was more than just help, she was a relief. She helped provide a list of all flight options available, and made sure he was book for several different flights. She also provided feedback on the airport status of reopening. She kept in contact with me, and following up on his flight status for two days, until he was in the air heading back home.”

DIA to announce new international airline service

DIA to announce new international airline service | 9news.com.

Denver International will add another new international carrier to their terminals. They are keeping the carrier a “secret” and we will find out today which airline will be added to the Denver mix. DIA did give us a pretty good hint when they said a representative from Volaris, Mexico’s low cost carrier, will be there today. Could we see more competition to Mexico? Stay tuned and we will keep you updated.

2012 Travel Industry Predictions

Did you know the airlines attempted to raise fares 22 times in 2011?  Did you catch Robert’s Business Travel Newsletter today with our best guesses for 2012? If you missed it, here is the short list of what we think will happen to airfare, hotel, and car rental rates in the coming year:

  • Our best guess is airfare will increase more than 5% but less than 10%. The airlines tried to raise fares 22 times in 2011. They were successful only nine times. Most of these increases occurred in the first half of 2011. Please see comments above about demand and fare increases.
  • The entire airline industry will make a little money in 2012, but with an emphasis on “little.”  (If Europe heads into a full scale recession and China slows down, a “little profit” will become a “large loss.”)
  • Hotels will continue to raise rates faster than the airlines. We expect to see hotel rates increase more than 10% but less than 15%.
  • Car rental companies have increased rates faster than either the airlines or hotels. We do not expect the car rental companies will be able to get more than an additional 5% to 10% out of you this year.

Kara Goes to the Nth Degree

Our very own Kara Lindsey was recently celebrated at the Polk Majestic holiday party as a “PMTG Nth Degree” recipient. This designation is an honor within the PMTG world, being annually bestowed upon two deserving employees. Below are just a few of the reasons she won the award and some fun facts about our dear Kara (mind you, she had no idea this was coming!):

- She has traveled to 88 countries (and she can tell a great/funny story about everywhere she has been).

- Kara started at Polk Majestic in June 2007 and forever changed the M&I Department.

- She is loved by all who meet her because of her depth of knowledge, talent, dedication and humor.

- There isn’t a client she’s worked with who hasn’t been impressed by her and enjoyed all that she brings to her events.

- We are never allowed to forget that she is a Texan, a Republican and a sports fan through and through.

- She likes the Dallas Mavericks and owner Mark Cuban, but her true loyalties are to her alma mater, Texas Tech (get your guns up Red Raiders!!!).

- She has 900+ Facebook friends at last count, all sure to be personal friends as she takes pride in truly connecting with everyone she meets.

- She is an amazing part of the company, an amazing and loyal friend to all of us!

Congrats to Kara!

Rome If You Want To

In October, Kara managed an incentive program for Google in Rome and had great success! One of her attendee’s wrote a sweet note to her post-trip:

“Kara, thanks again for all your help while we were in Rome. Ever since Dianne was about 4 or 5 it was her dream to go to Rome. She would read books about Rome History and show the pictures to her younger sister. “One Day I am going there!” she would say. This trip made her dreams come true.”

Our client also was extremely happy with the program outcome:

“Kara, thank you guys for all the great work you did going into and through the event. We are very pleased with the results!”

Yet another great job, Kara!

Meet the Newbies!

The Meetings & Incentives has been growing! We’ve recently hired two new Program Managers to our team. Read below for a little more professional and personal information about these fun-loving gals!

Stacey Ehlinger could also go by the title of Denver Diva. Stacey has over 6 years of event and meeting planning experience including celebrations, meetings, teambuilding, and group transportation for groups from 5 to 5,000+. With her years of experience working for a Denver DMC and Denver CVB, Stacey is knowledgeable in the local scene, familiar with the right venues and vendors to use to create a memorable experience.

Forget Thanksgiving and Christmas, perhaps the MOST important day of this pie fanatic’s year is on January 23rd, National Pie Day, in which Stacey will be chowing down on the Cherry variety, thankyouverymuch. Besides her love for pies of all kinds, this girl also has a passion for music. Listening to tunes all day, Stacey likes everything from Muse to the Beatles and just about everything in between. When she is not eating pie or listening to music (or even better, both), she may be hanging out on top of one of Colorado’s many 14-ers as she has taken up an interest in hiking since moving from the Hawkeye state over 4 years ago. She is M&I’s resident beer expert, and she appropriately refers to Colorado as the Napa Valley of Beers. Cheers!

Suzanne Rivers, our resident Detail Aficionado, comes to Denver from the Windy City! She has been in the hospitality industry for 6+ years and her most recent position was with GEP, a Global Destination Management Company, where she supported the Vice President. She has worked on large name events including the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade and GEP’s Executive Summits. Her talents lie in site selection, customer service, program management and of course, details!

Letterpress, Stationary and Note Cards, oh my! This pretty paper diva has a love for paper of all kinds and appreciates the dying art of hand writing letters and messages to family and friends. She could easily open her own store with her collection of unique and lovely paper! Playing on soccer and kickball leagues, friendly competition is part of her game. But playing sports isn’t the only thing that keeps her competitive. This self proclaimed card shark will give you a run for your money in hearts, gin rummy and crazy eight’s—who’s dealing? If not on the field or at the table, keep an eye out for Suzanne at one of the many craft, handmade and vintage markets around town. She loves searching for antiques (with Mom), traveling (New Zealand and Austrailia are tied for First) and making people laugh (her sarcasm is both hilarious and contagious). Sincerely, your friend Suz.

Say hello to these lovely ladies as you will most likely see them out and about at industry functions!

Creating a Tasty New Concept for your Next Corporate Party

Instead of just a plain ol’ corporate holiday party, why not kick it up a notch and take your guests on a Culinary Kitchen Delight? We can work with you to create this on-site at your existing hotel or take your guests off-site to another hotel or fun venue.

Imagine guests entering through the service doors of an actual working kitchen in the venue of your choice. Our team will work hand in hand with the hotel to set this space aside to create your very own Culinary Kitchen.

Stations will line the room offering, a variety of tasty treats depending on your theme for the night. Yummy samples include: gourmet grilled cheese station, sushi hand roll station, bread and cheese from around the world station with various balsamic vinegars to dip in, a food truck station (all the great finger foods that are served on your local trucks these days), and of course a dessert station – possibilities are endless here! And don’t forget the cocktails. We can take the kitchen food locker and turn it into an ice bar luge with your favorite drinks or make a Martini Bar with your company’s own signature cocktail. Polkatini’s anyone?

Add a heaping dose of amazing entertainment pieces like flair bartenders, singing waiters and dancers, snazzy decor and a hip dj spinning tunes and you will have a fabulous Culinary Kitchen Delight! Contact us today, it’s not too late!

Shannon and Beth take on Vegas: IMEX style!

Myself and Beth attended IMEX in Las Vegas this year.  This was the first time this international trade show was in the US as it’s been in Frankfurt for the past 10 years.

There were close to 2000 exhibitors from 147 countries so for us it was a great opportunity to have one on one appointments with hotels and resorts we would not normally meet with.  Because the appointments were 30 minutes we also learned about the culture, what makes their city unique, and “off the beaten path” type programs we can offer our incentive clients.  We found it very beneficial.

We stayed at the Palazzo, the host hotel, and they did a great job!  It was very convenient to be so close to the convention as it was on site and the service was amazing!
